Recently, over on my FB page, I'd mentioned that I wanted to shoot an engagement session including the couples' pets. And last night, I accomplished that session, and it was everything that you'd imagine it would be: it was silly; it was fun; it was a little awkward, even. But mostly, it was full of love. And their puggle, Lola, was the star!
What else made this shoot incredibly special for the four of us is that, up until recently, this engagement and impending marriage wouldn't even have been recognized as legal.
You see, my couple is a same sex couple.
And for some reason, there are folks out there that feel as if these women don't deserve the same basic human rights as the rest of us. They are hard working career women; they pay their taxes and do good deeds and are compassionate and beautiful; they love their pets, and they're all around good folks. But most importantly, they are people... people that fall in love and want to create a life together and live said life openly and with pride.
Words cannot begin to describe how happy I am that they are finally afforded that right. I wish these ladies lifetimes of love and happiness, and am proud to call them not only my clients, but also my friends.
